Our BS8537 root and tree protection fencing solutions on construction projects for trees and their preservation orders
Have you been given a trees and root preservation order? Scaffolding Express has specialised for years in BS8537 root and tree protection plan services keeping to current regulations on construction sites, for domestic, commercial and industrial customers.
It’s often the case that the preservation and protecting of nearby trees is forgotten about when project managers are devising development plans, which can lead to tree and root damage that can’t be repaired. However, you should be aware that that if you have had a tree survey done the BS8537 protection regulations sets out standards and guidance on protecting trees and roots and that these should be followed during construction and development projects. We can assist you with all your BS8537 root and tree protection needs in that respect for more on tree preservation order regulations click here.
Tree protection and protecting roots is required if your building, renovation or underground work (eg, drains, soak aways) is undertaken close to existing roots, forests, woodlands and bushes. This stops both trees and roots from being damaged. We calculate the right area that needs protecting and deliver a BS8537 root and tree preservation service that meets current protection guidance and regulations and that secures the scaffold framework into the ground for support rather than laying out steel plates and back weights to support the fencing and protect the woodlands.
When it comes to tree preservation orders and protecting woodlands the first stage involves the erecting of the scaffold framework with a raking tube and 1.5 metres of tube sunk into the ground to keep the structure stable. This is in line with British standard tree and root preservation order regulations and protection guidelines. From there, we secure a steel mesh panel protection (usually a Heras fence panel or similar) to the framework with steel lashings or heavy duty zip ties. This is now an established approach in roots and trees being protected with fencing and forms part of the planning regulations approval process if any trees or hedge lines need protecting from moving machinery or construction work.
If trees and roots and their associated protective orders are complicating your plans, we can provide expert advice on protection of tree regulations and give the best plan on how to protect them to BS8537 protection standards and allow you to get on with your project.
In terms of the British BS5837 protecting tree standards and regulations, there are basically two ways of securing the protective fencing around the roots and forestry area and making sure that it remains stable. These are the in ground tree protect system plan as described above and the weighted systems plan. We generally use the first tree protect system plan because it’s just as effective but uses fewer materials and it therefore can be more cost effective for our customers.
However, there are occasions when the weighted tree preservation protect system is in order – for example, when the protection needs to run across tarmac or concrete. Obviously, no amount of effort will run a long tube through ground like that! When we use the weighted protect system, we replace the tubes with flat steel plates that are loaded with up to 56lb of weights. We use a raking tube secured to the plate and up to the Heras panel, incorporating a back stay for support. The tree protection back stay system can also be used over delicate flower displays or around expensive shrubbery to avoid tubes being driven into the flower bed area.
Tree preservation and protecting woodland is essential on all sizes of projects. For example, homeowners will want to protect the trees, shrubs and their roots in their gardens during construction of a new extension or garage. If you have had a tree preservation and protection survey done and your project requires planning permission, you are duty bound to comply with current guidance and regulations and your local tree preservation and protection officer will want to know how you intend to preserve and protect the woods and root in your area. We can help by devising a tree and protection system and solution that you can include in your plans and then install the scaffolding quickly before the building work starts.
Commercial projects operate on a different scale entirely. These can sometimes involve measures that require hundreds of metres of protect system if the development is large, such as new housing estates or offices. On industrial sites, we can act as suppliers of protection and woodland root solutions on adjacent land when car parks or supermarkets are being constructed. The last thing you want is to discover that you have breached tree preservation orders and fallen foul of local authority regulations.
We also provide methods statements and easily visible signs to ensure that workers don’t compromise the safety of the nearby roots, trees and shrubs. However large or complex your tree protecting requirements are, we have the expertise to provide an effective plan and tree protecting service whenever you have been given a trees and root protection order.
